C'mon Huskies - $1,000 bucks!

Apparently the University of Washington Alma Mater isn't up to par. Granted I am slightly biased because I actually LIKE the current UW alma mater. I was a member of the Husky Band so I was forced to learn the lyrics and the sheet music. Call me nostalgic or old-school, but there is something endearing about the alma mater regardless of how dated it is. My fondest memory was coming home from the Rose Bowl at who knows what time in the morning - and the whole bus was asleep from the 20 minute drive from SeaTac to Montlake, but we all woke up to sing the alma mater like we had every time before when returning home from an away game. What made that particular singing of the alma mater more significant than any other? We had been up and moving around since 3am the day before for the Rose Parade, the game itself, and then traveling straight back to Seattle after a raucous celebration. I can go on and on about the Rose Bowl experiences and trips, but I won't to spare most of you non Husky Band people (and besides if you were in HMB and are reading this, then you probably know what I'm talking about ANYWAY...).

You can enter a contest to write a new alma mater (lyrics that is), more information may be found at these following URLs:
Write the New Song of Washington - http://www.washington.edu/discovery/uwsong/
Put your UW devotion into words...for $1,000 - http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004402316_uwsong09m.html

Bill Conti, who is a freaking musical genius (think For Your Eyes Only, World News Tonight, the theme to Rocky, and many more culturally relevant tunes) has been selected to put the winner's lyrics to music.

Am I going to enter? I may need to drink some Tequila to inspire myself.
